Below is a brief description of each Committee and the types of activities committee members are likely to be involved in. If interested please contact the Committee Chair via email to register your interest.

Corporate Outreach

Co-Chaired by Board members Fran Kapner (frances.t.kapner@jpmorgan.com) and Myra Woods (myra.woods@bearingpoint.com), this committee identifies target corporate members, working with the targets to educate them about the WBC and migrate them to new members. It also reaches out to existing corporate members to ensure they are getting the appropriate value from their membership and to tee up new initiatives as appropriate. The time commitment is 5 to 10 hours per month including a monthly committee conference call. Except for the monthly call, all committee work can be done as and when the committee members’ schedules permit.

Membership

The Corporate Membership committee is Co-Chaired by Board members Fran Kapner (frances.t.kapner@jpmorgan.com) and Myra Woods (myra.woods@bearingpoint.com). The Individual Membership committee is Chaired by Board member Patricia Rasmussen-Catalano (Patrcatalano@aol.com). Work on these committees involve new member application processing, extensive liaison work with new and current members, database updating, assisting Events committee in planning New Member events and preparing monthly membership statistics. The time commitment averages one hour per week. Work can be performed individually or as part of a team of committee members. All of the work required can be done over the telephone/e-mail with in-person meetings optional. The Committee as a group meets quarterly either in-person or via a conference call.

Community Outreach

Co-Chaired by Board member Heidi Solomon (heidi.solomon@credit-suisse.com) and Karen Goldman (kjgoldman10@hvc.rr.com), this committee runs the WBC’s charitable giving program as well as the scholarship, mentoring, internship and jobs programs. Committee work includes brainstorming about how to expand our efforts, working directly with promising young women interested in building a career in finance, liaising with charitable organizations, coordinating scholarship and mentoring programs and more. The time commitment can range anywhere from 2-10 hours per month (including meetings) depending upon your role. Meetings can be attended in person or over the telephone.

Mission Statement for Community Outreach

The Women's Bond Club Community Outreach programs are dedicated to improving the work life of women of all ages in the New York metropolitan area by expanding their connections to financial markets, providing knowledge, skills, education and access. We accomplish our mission through the following programs:

  • WBC scholarship program - We offer merit-based scholarships to women students graduating from a select list of NYC public high schools to pursue studies in business and finance.
  • WBC Guiding Star mentoring program - All scholarship winners are provided a mentor throughout their college education to assist them with career development and networking.
  • WBC Internships - The WBC endeavors to place scholarship winners in summer internships related to the financial services industry and also to assist them in finding full-time positions upon graduation.
  • WBC Charitable Giving program - the WBC provides philanthropic gifts to select non-profit organizations that are aligned with the WBC mission.

Marketing/Communications

This committee is Chaired by Board member Jane Prokop (jprokop@post.harvard.edu).The Marketing/Communications Committee is focused on delivering communications through a variety of channels to WBC members and the marketplace. Our primary focus for this year is developing a quarterly newsletter to be distributed to corporate and individual members. Going forward the Committee will drive PR and Marketing activities for the Club. The committee meets on a monthly basis, either by phone or in person, to discuss key activities. Sub-Committees work with a representative from each of the other Committees to obtain and maintain content on the website on an ongoing basis. Workload is dependent upon the projects the Board initiates.

Merit Award Dinner

The Merit Award Committee is Co-Chaired by Board members Mallika Govindan (mgovindan@deloitte.com) and Marla Dans (marla.dans@morganstanley.com). The committee plans the WBC’s annual fundraising event, the Merit Award Dinner, which usually occurs in April. The committee sets up and runs the nominations process for the MAD Merit Award, Isabel Benham Awards and the Rising Stars. The committee also organizes the table sales process. Together with an external event planner, the committee plans and executes all aspects of the dinner. We meet once a week by phone from October through April. The time involvement depends on how close we are to the dinner date. During January to April the involvement is likely to be 1 hr a week.

Events

Co-Chaired by Board Members Debra Baker (debra.baker@bnymellon.com) and Susan Green (susan.e.green@bankofamerica.com), this committee plans the WBC’s monthly events with the staff of the Corporate Member firm hosting the event. Committee work includes brainstorming the concept for each event, identifying a Corporate Member firm to host and establishing the venue and program. The time commitment averages 2 -3 hours per event. Work can be performed individually or as part of a team of committee members. Most of the work required can be done over the telephone with in-person meetings optional. The Committee as a group meets quarterly either in-person or via a conference call.

Rising Star & Mentoring

The committee is currently chaired by Nancy Schneier (nancy.schneier@kurtosys.com). Debra Walton (debra.walton@thomson.com) is the board liaison to this committee which is responsible for targeting special programs for our Rising Star constituency. Last year the committee organized a highly successful "Speed Mentoring" event which provided our Rising Stars access to some of our senior leadership in a fun and innovative format to discuss some of the major career challenges many of us experience.

Senior Women's Program

This new committee is chaired by Debra Walton (debra.walton@thomson.com) and Maureen Kodweis (maureen_kodweis@ml.com). This committee is focused around developing targeted programs for our senior leadership - typically our C-Level members. The committee held its first senior women’s dinner during 2006 and is committed to hosting 2 dinners each year.
