Past Event: March 30, 2012: Career Panel at UASBYW
The annual Career Panel for the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women was held on March 30, 2012 and once again it was a huge success! The day started with a networking breakfast for students and panelists before breaking out into the classrooms where the speakers provided a more intimate discussion about their careers. One of our fellow Women’s Bond Club members, Lisa DeRoche, Assistant Vice President and HR Business Partner at AXA, summarized her experience. "This was my 3rd year participating in the UASBYW career panel. When I volunteered the first year, I felt it was important for me not only because it is the school my mentee Qu Ting Zheng was Valedictorian but also because it is my life's passion to educate young woman on the power of learning and growing as individuals. Every time I come to the school, the young woman are thrilled to hear my stories of challenge and success. When I was a young woman, early in my teens or even early in my career, I didn't have an opportunity to hear from successful woman in business and the experiences that shaped their lives. I want these young woman to know that these experiences help build their self-esteem and confidence that will one day allow them to be a force in today's world that is unstoppable! Thank you to the WBC and to the young woman at UASBYW for this awesome opportunity. The experience inspires me to want to do more for young woman everywhere." Thank you Lisa and all of our volunteers for contributing to the Club and making a difference in so many lives.

Past Event: June 10, 2011: "Off to College Shower" at UASBYW
The Women's Bond Club Community Outreach Committee hosted an 'Off to College Shower' for the 58 members of the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women's 2011 graduating class on June 10th. The UASBYW prepares students for business leadership roles by exploring different areas of business and a variety of career options and teaching them how to succeed in a diverse, ever-changing business environment. All of the graduating seniors have been accepted to college and the 'Off to College Shower' was a wonderful way for the Women's Bond Club to congratulate them.

A big thank you to Women's Bond Club Co-President, Fran Kapner, for speaking about her career experiences and motivating the students to continue to believe in themselves. Thanks to Svenja Freckmann, Verena Detmer, Rebecca Hammond and Eleanor Weille, who coordinated the event and assembled the totes full of wonderful travel items, coffee mugs, alarm clocks, ID holders and various other goodies. Thank you to Invesco for their generous donation, which enabled us to send the seniors off with books, memory disks and journals. Thank you also to Commerzbank for purchasing the great totes to hold all of the gift items and finally, thanks to Rosa Alaimo and Michele Tomic for their generous donations and help towards making the college shower a success.

Past Event: May 18, 2011: Business Etiquette - The Wow Factor
Sagent Advisors hosted a business etiquette session for the Women's Bond Club scholarship winners led by author and corporate coach Frances Cole Jones on May 18th. Ms. Jones discussed how body language and other non-verbal communication are important factors contributing to how an individual’s message is received. She also provided tips for interviewing that will help the women stand out from their competition. Specific topics included how to prepare for the interview, how to "tell your story" during the interview, and the importance of proper follow-up. The young women were very engaged in the conversation and asked excellent questions. Ms. Jones provided real life examples for each of her tips, which made the lessons easier to remember.

After the discussion, Ms. Jones met individually with many of the scholarship winners to provide guidance on their particular situations. Women's Bond Club Community Outreach Committee members: Rosa Alaimo, Karen Goldman and Michele Tomic donated copies of Ms. Jones' book "How to Wow" for each scholarship winner attending the event. We are very grateful to Ms. Jones for generously donating her time and thoughtful insights. Special thanks also go to Rosa for coordinating the event.
